Coaching Terms

Last updated: 3 July 2026

These Coaching Terms apply to coaching supplied by Razor's Edge Personal Training, operated by Richard Kerr-Phillips.

They apply alongside any written service summary, accepted application, payment arrangement and the rights provided by New Zealand consumer law.

1. Services

Depending on the service selected, coaching may include:

  • individualised programming delivered through GoodLift;
  • online coaching;
  • in-person personal training;
  • strength or powerlifting coaching;
  • weekly support through WhatsApp or another agreed channel;
  • training monitoring and programme adjustments;
  • technique and lifting-video feedback;
  • practical nutrition guidance;
  • accountability support;
  • an optional personalised meal plan;
  • Private Coaching Concierge services, where separately agreed.

The exact service included is the service confirmed when your application is accepted.

2. Coaching scope

My coaching is focused on exercise, strength development, body-composition goals, training behaviour and practical nutrition guidance.

I am not acting as your doctor, physiotherapist, psychologist, dietitian or other registered health practitioner.

Coaching does not diagnose, treat or cure medical conditions. I may require you to obtain medical or allied-health clearance before beginning or continuing training.

3. Your responsibilities

You agree to:

  • provide accurate information relevant to your safe participation;
  • disclose injuries, symptoms, medical restrictions and material changes in your health;
  • follow reasonable safety instructions;
  • use equipment appropriately;
  • train within the agreed programme and your reasonable capabilities;
  • stop exercising and seek appropriate assistance if you experience concerning symptoms;
  • communicate honestly about your progress, limitations and adherence;
  • obtain professional medical advice where appropriate.

You remain responsible for decisions you make outside supervised sessions.

4. No guaranteed outcome

I will provide coaching with reasonable care and skill, but no specific strength, weight-loss, physique, competition or health outcome is guaranteed.

Progress varies between clients and depends on adherence, effort, nutrition, recovery, health, starting point and other individual circumstances.

5. Online coaching

Online coaching is currently priced at $69 per week and begins with an initial eight-week commitment.

After the initial eight weeks, coaching continues week to week unless ended in accordance with these Terms.

Online coaching includes the services described on the current Online Coaching page and in your accepted service confirmation.

6. In-person recurring coaching

Recurring in-person coaching is currently offered at:

  • Two 45-minute sessions per week: $258 per week
  • Two 60-minute sessions per week: $299 per week

Recurring in-person arrangements begin with an initial eight-week commitment.

Recurring in-person clients also receive the full online coaching service unless otherwise agreed.

Recurring in-person coaching is paid weekly in advance. Your coaching time and weekly capacity are reserved for you once payment is received.

Coaching will not commence, and scheduled sessions will not proceed, unless payment for that week has been received in advance.

Gym membership, gym-entry charges and other charges imposed by Chop Shop Barbell Club are separate and are paid directly by the client.

7. One-off personal-training session

A one-off 45-minute, no-commitment personal-training session is $159.

The session is intended for clients seeking direct guidance and technique correction without joining a recurring coaching arrangement.

The scope will be agreed before or at the beginning of the session.

8. Private Coaching Concierge

Private Coaching Concierge is currently $650 per week, subject to application, acceptance, location and availability.

The exact services, session location, scheduling and support included will be confirmed separately.

Where meal-delivery assistance is included:

  • I may help select meals and manage approved ordering arrangements;
  • food, delivery and third-party provider charges are additional;
  • you remain the customer of the meal provider;
  • I do not guarantee the availability, ingredients, delivery performance or service of a third-party meal company;
  • allergy and dietary information must be checked directly with the meal provider;
  • I will not ask you to send raw card details by email, WhatsApp or ordinary messaging.

9. Optional personalised meal plan

An optional personalised meal plan is currently $99 once-off.

The meal plan provides practical food structure based on the information you supply. It is not a prescribed medical diet and does not replace advice from a registered dietitian or medical professional.

You must disclose relevant allergies, intolerances and medical dietary restrictions. You remain responsible for checking ingredients, portions and suitability.

10. Payments

Fees are payable in advance through the agreed payment method.

You authorise agreed recurring charges for an ongoing coaching service until the service ends in accordance with these Terms.

You are responsible for maintaining a valid payment method and promptly addressing failed payments.

If a payment is overdue, I may pause coaching, programme updates, support or sessions until the account is brought up to date.

11. Initial commitment and cancellation

The online and recurring in-person services have an initial eight-week commitment.

Unless otherwise agreed or required by law:

  • fees for the initial commitment remain payable if you choose to stop early;
  • after the initial term, you may cancel by giving at least seven days' written notice;
  • cancellation notice may be sent to Richard@razorsedgept.com;
  • coaching and charges will end after the applicable paid or notice period.

Where illness, injury or exceptional circumstances prevent participation, contact me promptly. A pause, credit, early release or adjusted arrangement may be agreed based on the circumstances.

Nothing in this section limits any cancellation or remedy available under New Zealand consumer law.

12. In-person session cancellation

At least 24 hours' notice is required to cancel or reschedule an in-person session.

Where less than 24 hours' notice is given, or you do not attend, the session will be charged in full and treated as used, regardless of the reason for the cancellation or non-attendance.

This policy applies without exception, including illness, injury, hospitalisation, transport disruption, work commitments, family emergencies and other unexpected circumstances.

The fee remains payable because the coaching time and capacity were reserved for you and could not reasonably be offered to another client without sufficient notice.

Where I cancel a scheduled session, the session will be rescheduled or credited to you and will not be treated as used.

13. Scheduling

Recurring session times are subject to availability and must be agreed.

I will take reasonable steps to provide the agreed coaching schedule, but occasional changes may be required because of illness, competition, travel, gym access or circumstances outside reasonable control.

Where a material disruption occurs, I will communicate with you and offer a reasonable alternative.

14. Pauses

A temporary pause is not automatic and must be agreed in writing.

Any approved pause may alter programme delivery, session scheduling, minimum-term dates and billing dates.

15. GoodLift and communication platforms

GoodLift and agreed communication platforms are used to support coaching delivery.

Temporary interruptions, maintenance or third-party outages may occur. Where practical, I will use a reasonable alternative method while a significant interruption is resolved.

You are responsible for maintaining suitable internet access and a compatible device.

16. Nutrition guidance

Nutrition guidance may cover matters such as:

  • protein intake;
  • energy intake;
  • food selection;
  • meal structure;
  • lower-calorie choices;
  • eating habits;
  • surplus or deficit targets;
  • adjustments based on progress.

You remain responsible for your food choices and should seek appropriately qualified advice for medical nutrition, eating disorders, pregnancy, allergies or complex health conditions.

17. Training risks

Exercise and strength training involve inherent risks, including soreness, strains, falls, aggravation of an existing condition and other injury.

I will take reasonable care when supplying coaching, but you acknowledge that risk cannot be entirely removed.

This acknowledgement does not exclude responsibility that cannot lawfully be excluded.

18. Photographs, videos and testimonials

Technique videos or progress photographs supplied privately may be used for coaching and record-keeping.

I will not use identifiable material publicly for advertising or promotion without appropriate permission.

Any marketing permission should be separately understood and does not determine whether you can receive coaching.

19. Programmes and coaching material

Training programmes, templates, written resources, videos and coaching systems provided to you are for your personal use.

You must not resell, publish, distribute, copy for other people or commercially exploit them without written permission.

Your own personal training records and information remain yours.

20. Respectful conduct

I may end or suspend coaching for:

  • abusive, threatening or discriminatory conduct;
  • harassment;
  • deliberate misuse of the service;
  • serious or repeated safety breaches;
  • dishonesty that prevents safe or effective coaching;
  • repeated non-payment.

Where reasonably possible, I will explain the issue and provide an opportunity to resolve it before ending coaching.

Any refund, credit or remaining payment obligation will be assessed fairly in light of the circumstances and applicable law.

21. Changes to services or fees

I may update coaching systems, communication methods or non-material service processes where reasonably necessary.

I will provide reasonable advance notice of a fee increase or material service change. Where a material change disadvantages an ongoing client, the client may end the service before the change takes effect without an additional cancellation penalty.

22. Consumer rights

Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy that cannot legally be excluded, including rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and Fair Trading Act 1986.

23. Concerns and disputes

Raise concerns with me first so I have a reasonable opportunity to address them.

Contact:

Richard@razorsedgept.com

If a concern cannot be resolved directly, either party may use an appropriate New Zealand dispute-resolution process or court.

24. New Zealand law

These Terms are governed by New Zealand law.
